Demographic data

  • As of 31 December 2010 the population of Pilsen was 168,808, with males totalling 81,947 and females 86,861
  • According to population, Pilsen is the fourth largest city in the country and the second largest in Bohemia
  • In the 2010 period, 3,240 people moved to the city, with 641 arriving from a foreign country; 4,451 moved away, the population loss due to migration thus totalled 1,211
  • In the same period, 1,819 babies were born and 1,735 people died, resulting in natural growth of 84 people
  • In 2010 there were 806 marriages and 504 divorces
  • According to the age structure in Pilsen as of 31 December 2010, 21,746 people were aged 0–14 years, 116,966 were aged 16–64 years and 30,096 were over 65 years of age

Great natives and important people

  • According to the 2001 Population and Housing Census, there were 73,792 residential units in Pilsen, with 68,092 of these housing permanent residents
  • 24% of these units were built before 1945, 29% from 1946–1970, 41% from 1971–1990 and 6% from 1991–2001
  • In the Pilsen-City district (Pilsen and 14 towns and communities), 587 units were completed in 2010, with 231 of these created in single-family houses, 276 were multi-family units, 74 units were created in single-family and multi-family houses when space was converted or annexes were built, and six units were completed in other buildings
